CROWNE PLAZA, BLANCHARDSTOWN – BEDROOM REFURBISHMENT
The location of the hotel, on the fringe of Dublin is beside both the historic Phoenix Park and Tolka Valley Park, has inspired the design for the bedroom refurbishment, knitting connections with the genius loci to the urban green spaces and the adjacent Tolka river. Inspiring the natural palette of materials and tones which feature in the new rooms – leafy greens and soft corals are combined with dark stained woods and putty leather headboards against warm grey textures. We have used a gentle curve to draw the eye through the room to the light and view, delineating the room functions – the herringbone patterned tile floor in wood tones where the main circulation is from the sleeping area around the bed where wool carpet is laid. Asymmetry is introduced to the lights, headboard, nightstands, wardrobe and desk accenting the different feel to each area of the room and highlighting different zones and activities creating more atmosphere. In place of artwork and wall dressing, we commissioned a wall mural to wrap around the bedroom that presents the prominent elements of the Phoenix Park in gentle yet graphic misty tones – the deer, monument, rolling landscape and mature trees. Suites feature extra layers of luxury, design and space all finished to create a warm, relaxing and atmospheric room that meets the needs of the savvy traveller. Hand painted headboards in the master suite depict kingfishers on the Tolka set amongst reeds and grasses.
