CARROWDORE CASTLE

CARROWDORE CASTLE

This project consisted of two phases. Phase 1 required restoration to the external fabric of this Grade B+ listed building, a three storey country house of 1818 in a castellated rustic gothic style.  Phase 2 involved making good the internal fabric that had been damaged by water penetration, including the reinstatement of lath and plaster walls and ceilings.  All the works were carried out in accordance with the internationally recognised conservation principles defined in the Burra Charter (1981). The guiding principles were the concept of Minimum Intervention, Maximum Retention, Clarity and Reversibility.
